WET PLATE COLLODION, introductory workshop

Wet Plate Collodion is a 19th century photography process of pouring Collodion onto a plate of thin iron or glass, then exposing it in a large format camera and developing the plate while it is still wet. This technique creates One-of–a–Kind photographs with a very unique aesthetic, which can’t be reached by any other photographic process.
During the workshop the participants will learn how to create in-camera positive images on glass and metal plates.
It is a slow process, where everything is made by hand, from plate preparation, through image processing to varnishing

CYANOTYPE

Cyanotype is one of the oldest techniques of creating an image with a use of light. Originally cyanotypes were used to create photograms by laying the subject directly on the photo sensitized paper, which exposed to sun gives white silhouettes on a prussian blue ground. Today also film or digital negatives can be used for cyanotype printing. In this process a photosensitive emulsion is brushed onto paper by hand, what makes each print very unique. Blue color can be changed to brown or black by tonning (i.e in tea or coffee)

VAN DYKE BROWN

Like many of photography’s earlier processes, Van Dyke Brown is a contact printing process needing ultraviolet light to make the exposure onto a piece of coated paper (or other suitable material). It takes its name from the color cast of final print, a deep brown, similar to popular paint pigment, named from a Flemish painter Van Dyck.
It It’s a process that’s reasonably easy, affordable, and can be done without the need for a darkroom.
